Netgear Router IP Address

An IP address is the means by which computers are identified over the internet or over a network, an IP address acquired by means of a network adapter that is normally fitted into the computers motherboards. A computer requires establishing an IP address in order to gain access to a network or internet.

The Netgear router provides WI-FI features to a computer that has no internal WI-FI device. This router is used as a means to connect to the internet and other home networks that a computer may be configured to work in. Netgear routers are designed for easy use. The compact designs of the routers can be seen in the various models that net gear has manufactured. With each model of the net gear router the Netgear IP address of each router can be found in the user’s manual.

One can access the control panel of a net gear’s router by following a few instructions and using the Netgear IP address;
• Connect the Netgear router using the network patch cable to the computer.
• Switch on the computer and log in using an administrators account.
• One should then set up the network address and edit the network properties so as to obtain the net gear routers address automatically.
• The next step should be to run ones choice of a web browser though it is advisable to use the default web browser one can choose between internet explorer, Mozilla Firefox and any other browser.
• One should then type in the router’s IP address in the address bar and press enter to access the net gear router’s homepage. Most browsers input the hypertext protocol part before one types anything such that it is not necessary to type it in. however for those browsers which don’t one should input the whole address; http://192.168.0.1/ which is the Netgear IP address.
• Once one has entered the username and password, for first time users the username and passwords are default. And that gives access to the router’s control panel.

What is 192.168.1.254?

A large number of router manufacturers us the 192.168.1.254 IP address as a default address for their routers. It represents a private 32-bit IPv4 address, class C. This is also the default address for a very large number of home broadband routers and broadband modems, which include at least billion ADSL routers, connect routers, Internet gateways, and switches.

Although this address is set at the factory by the manufacturer, it can be changed at any time by using the vendor’s management software. Your username and password can also be changed. You can set any device on the local network to use it. However, in order to avoid address conflicts, just one device on the local network is supposed to use this particular address at a time. Also, it is reserved to be used in private networks. Private networks use private IP address space, mainly used for home, office, and enterprise LANs (local area networks), and are not present on the Internet. They go in the IP range reserved by the IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority). That is done to bypass the lack of available IP address. Many networks at home are not part of it, no matter they are connected to the Internet. Actually, many computers must share the same ISP connection, and they cannot directly be reached from the Internet. Also the best thing about it is that considering the growing threats of malware on the Internet, the best thing is that direct contact is being avoided.

If the router doesn’t receive a response from the computer located at IP 192.168.1.254, you will receive a Gateway Timeout message. This can happen because there isn’t a computer at this address, or it doesn’t listen to port 80. Then you should check your firewall settings if you have one, because maybe that is the reason why it doesn’t respond to your requests. If your problem remains unsolved, please use your router user manual for detailed instructions.
